We are winding down to our major presidential election. Are you ready to project the winner? I have looked at both candidates, and included that possibly neither one of them can win. I know that’s strange, but you might find my reasoning. Interesting. It’s all set out in my new column. You can read it now by going to the Red Flashing Box above or by Clicking Here.
Mr. Brown,
I read your weekly column in my local newspaper, Teche News, and enjoy your take that steps away from the polarizing politics by turning your pen against both sides of the aisle. However, I was dismayed to see you miss an opportunity to be a part of the change you would like to see in our politics, all the while complaining about the status quo. This week, the last full week before Election Day, you fallaciously stated that there are only two choices set before Americans this Tuesday, Trump or Harris. When I looked up my sample ballot and when I stepped in to my local early voting station, I saw eleven (11) candidates for president/vice president. I will grant that nine of them stand no chance whatsoever at winning even a single state’s electoral college, much less the office itself. However, as someone, who–like you–is deeply dissatisfied with both major parties, both in their presidential nominations and in their published platform, I still consider voting for one of these “third” parties as a way to send a small message to the two major parties that I would prefer that they move in the direction of my pick’s platform and representation. If I lived in a battleground state instead of Louisiana, I may feel morally convicted to vote in such a way that would actually sway the election toward truth and justice, but in a state that will inevitably side with the Republican ticket (again) I consider my down-ballot vote just as valuable as any one of my neighbors’ uniform votes. By neglecting to point out the fact that there are more than two parties on the ballot and instead despairing about the political duopoly, you actually participated in the problem instead of taking a small step to resolve it. I hope you will consider publicly correcting your false statement and possibly publishing an opinion article with whatever you might have to say for or against voting down the ballot.
