Congress is in “shutdown mode,” but just what were they doing when they were supposedly paying attention? Or do they ever? Sen. John McCain says: “The problem is that most members of Congress don’t pay attention to what’s going on.”  And you cannot find a better example of the way members of Congress bumble than in the new huge rate increases in flood insurance.  Gulf Coast congressmen and senators, both Republicans and Democrats,  are running around like the sky is falling. So why, pray tell, did every one of them vote for the huge rate increases? Didn’t one member of Congress or staff member pay enough attention to see the damage that would be caused? Take a look at my new column where I point out how Congress, particularly those members along the Gulf Coast, really dropped the ball.
