It was 132 years ago this week. That’s the birthdate of one of Louisiana’s most powerful United States senators whoever served representing the Bayou state. Senator Allen Ellender was a legend in the U.S. Senate serving for 35 years until his death in 1972. I had quite an initial meeting with Ellender at a rural courthouse in North Louisiana.
