When you consider Louisiana political figures that have had a major influence on the state, former New Orleans Mayor Dutch Morial is high on the list. He was the first African American to serve and be elected in a number of major positions. Dutch died 25 years ago, but his remains were reinterred last week to a new family tomb. I was there for the ceremony and it was a good time to look back on quite a political career. My new column remembers a bright, funny, competent and groundbreaking political figure from days past.
