In Louisiana, Why Have Levee Districts?

They are fighting and feuding in the Louisiana legislature over what to do about a run-a-way levee board that wants to, can you believe, hold oil companies liable for years of damage to the Louisiana coast.  It’s a political insiders game, as the Governor wants much more control over appointing levee board members.  Louisiana has 23 levee boards that oversee levee protection along hundreds of miles of waterways.  But here’s the question.  Why have any levee boards at all?  Take a look at my column this week and see what you think.  You can read it now by going to the Red Flashing Box above, or by Clicking Here.
