My long time friend died this week and the way too young age of 71.  Frank Davis was the resident chef and outdoors director for WWL-TV in New Orleans (CBS). He was one of the hosts of an award-winning two-hour morning news show, and also hosted several daily programs on the outdoors, fishing, and other recreation attractions of the Crescent City. Davis also wrote several cookbooks based on the recipes he cooked up on the show including Frank Davis Makes Good Groceries! A New Orleans Cookbook; The Frank Davis Seafood Notebook; Frank Davis Cooks Naturally N’Awlins; Frank Davis Cooks Cajun, Creole, and Crescent City; and The Fisherman’s Tackle Box Bible.

Frank and I became friends when we served in the National Guard together.  I was a Captain and PFC Davis was assigned to drive me.  A really funny guy, he kept me in stitches wherever we went.  For years after, I would be a regular guest on his New Orleans radio show where we cooked up a gumbo or Etouffee in the early morning hours.  Many of us here in Louisiana will sure miss our dear friend Frank.
