The Guy that taught me about Jazz!

Jazz icon Dave Brubeck passed away this week. Anyone who enjoys modern jazz knows the tremendous impact that Brubeck had on bringing jazz to the mainstream listener like me.  He was the guy that opened my eyes to a whole different genre of music.  I was going to high school in St. Louis back in the 1950s, and dated a girl some 45 minutes away from my home. I made this weekend trip week after week, and have the radio on as I was driving.  KMOX was the major radio station in the Midwest, and the night DJ, a fellow named John McCormick, regularly played Brubeck.  You couldn’t beat listening to “Take Five” on a long late evening drive home.   I was able to hear this grand pianist in person several times.  Many of us will miss Dave Brubeck.
