When oil companies, in pursuit of huge profits, follow unchartered paths, are they properly assessing the risk involved? The same for the Wall Street financial companies that cratered and had to be bailed out by taxpayers. Isn’t risk assessment critical for oil companies and financial institutions alike, and when does government policy actually encourage private companies to take chances that really are not justified?
