Memorial Day-Does anybody care?

 

Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching with the actual day being this coming Monday.  Do you even know what is being memorialized?  Traditional observance of Memorial Day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day or even own an American flag. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country.

Oh we are all for supporting the troops, but what does that mean?  Cheering for them like in the Budweiser commercial as they walk by?  Radio commentators pooh- pooh national service, and few today have served their country in any fashion.  If you don’t fly the American flag, shame on you. Our government is filled with “Chicken hawks,” where both this and the past administration make life or death and torture decisions with no experience to back these choices up.
