As regular readers know, I often brag about my alma mater at Chapel Hill. But there was a low point last we that I certainly am not proud of. Former Rep. Tom Tancredo recently visited University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to speak to a group on the topic of immigration and his opposition to granting in-state tuition benefits to illegal immigrants. He was prevented from speaking by disruptive protesters; Tancredo left and police shut down the event. To the University’s credit, Chancellor Holden Thorp immediately apologized and called for a full investigation. “Carolina’s tradition of free speech is a fundamental part of what has made this place special for more than 200 years.” Below is the video of unruly students protesting.
