Former Senators’ Reunion

Former state senators get together once a year during the regular legislative session in Baton Rouge to fraternize and “remember when.” I look back on my days in the Louisiana Senate as some of my most enjoyable times, with a group of Senators that did a great deal for the state. Unfortunately, most of the gang I started out with have passed on. I enjoyed a long visit with to old friends who began serving with me back in 1972. Pictured below are former Senate President Sammy Nunez and Sen. Hank Laracella from Jefferson Parish. We had apartments side by side at the Pentagon Barracks across from the state capitol, and regularly opened up our kitchens and porches for after session suppers for a number of years. It was good to see these two old friends again.
