LSU AND THE FEDS LOOK BAD IN CASE HANDLING
This whole Anthrax debacle on the part of the FBI gets even murkier, since we now find out that the latest guy fingered as the culprit apparently did not have the ability to even create anthrax in his laboratory. Columnist Justin Raimondo wrote an in depth article last week pointing out the numerous inconsistencies in charges by both the Justice Department and the FBI. He observes:
“Indeed, I would venture to say that the US government is engaged in a massive cover-up. A serious charge, but one not made lightly: indeed, given what we know, it’s almost impossible to draw any other conclusion.
To begin with, it is clear from the evidence that Bruce Ivins, the scientist accused of creating and sending the anthrax ““ and who committed suicide before he could be brought to trial ““ is a patsy, and that the government would like nothing better than for this case to go away. But it isn’t going away. The most recent revelations are occasioned by a lawsuit brought by the relatives of the anthrax killers’ first victim, charging that the government’s neglect and sheer incompetence caused the death of Robert Stevens, a photographer for the Florida-based Sun newspaper group. In response, government lawyers presented evidence that blows apart their own case against the departed Ivins:
“On July 15, however, Justice Department lawyers acknowledged in court papers that the sealed area in Ivins’ lab ““ the so-called hot suite ““ did not contain the equipment needed to turn liquid anthrax into the refined powder that floated through congressional buildings and post offices in the fall of 2001.”
If you have followed this case, you will recall that the first scapegoat and so called “person of interest” in this case was Dr. Steven Hatfill, who at the time was working here in my home town at Louisiana State University.  Without so much as a hearing, LSU dumped Hatfill. He later settled WITH the government by receiving some $5 million because of the false claims.  The whole messy ep9sode brought shame on the reputation of Louisiana’s flagship university.

Just this week, we witnessed the Justice Department attempting to change their story about Bruce Ivins. The federal judge involved in the case said the government had to have “good cause’ before it could flip flop on just what they allege actually happened. This whole anthrax debacle has been a huge embarrassment for the Justice Department. They haven’t come close to finding out just who made and caused the anthrax attacks back in 2001.
